Kibera Town Centre Celebrates Women, Water

false

To celebrate International Women's Day on March 8, the Kibera Town Centre offered Zumba classes; free showers, water, and cyber cafe time; and free tours of the centre complete with raffles of 50+ prizes. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the women of Kibera.

Jamy School Children Get Free Use of HNP toilets

To help its neighbors and teach children about proper sanitation, HNP donated two toilets for exclusive free use by the children at Jamy Quality Education Centre, right next door to the Town Centre.  John Milla, Chariman of the Kibera Multipurpose Cooperative and a familiar face to most of the children and within the community, commissoned the opening of these two toilets on October 1. Following the cutting of the ribbon, Chairman Milla gave a great speech promoting HNP’s role in advocating for cleanliness and good hygiene practices.

Basic Training for HNP Managers

On May 26, we underwent a First Aid Training facilitated by Melchizedek Hospital. This was conducted at our H.N.P offices. The training was to help us be in a position of saving people who might be injured at the Kibera Town Centre. The training was very helpful because once we open the centre, employees will be handling a lot of machinery which may expose them to getting injuried.  And even with the best of preventative strategies in place, we have to be prepared if the customers get injured.  All these skills were first level skills, to help people before they are rushed to the hospital.

First HNP water goes to Olympic Primary School in Kibera!

Congratulations, Ken Okoth and Head Teacher Namulundu - We have water at Olympic School!

Currently students who do not have piped water at school have to fill up from a truck-filled tank, which is not always filled consistently and costs a lot to use.  The toilets also do not properly flush if the tank that services them has not been filled recently, which leads to very unsanitary conditions for the schools' lavatories.

Welcome to our Blog!

Finally!  We're excited to launch the HNP blog - a place where the very latest news, stories and conversations about our project will be posted.

At HNP we are all about community.  Sharing our stories, and those of the people who work with us and who are impacted by our projects worldwide, are at the heart of what we do and why we do it.
